FFwD: crème brûlée

Today I worked for the last time at my company. Because of a reorganisation my department is redundant. One site of the story is that is making me sad, I've got great colleagues and challenging work. But on the other site there is an opportunity, I can start thinking of starting my own business a cookery school. But it's feeling strange. Tonight we are going to have a farewell party and then we all leave our own ways. I only can hope that everyone gets allright.

But then again, it's Friday, French Friday. I never made crème brûlée the official way. So I got myself a gas burner (comes in handy with my cooking school).

At the bottom I put in a little of my homemade plumjam. That's a nice accent for myself. And furthermore I made the custard myself according to the recipe of Dorie. Let it stand for a few hours in the refrigerator (so a little skin can form on top) and sprinkle a little bit of sugar on it. Burn it with  my gasburner and you've got a really delicious crunchy dessert.

We liked it very much and it looks wonderful.

I can imagine as a dessert after christmasdinner. Candlelight, pine twigs, christmas ornaments on the table and then a great dessert. You take a spoonfull of it and it melts in your mouth...
Can you imagine?

We aren't supposed to give the recipe, but you can find similar recipes on the web.

I'm so sorry to hear about your job, that must be very difficult and sad. But from what I have seen on your blog so far, I'm sure your cooking school will be a success. Best of luck to you.

As for your creme brulees, your home made jam sounds delicious and your photos are just so cute & festive. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

I completely understand what you are going through, the bank I worked for and loved was closed by the FDIC in 2009 and I lost a great job, wonderful co-workers and my retirement.

I think your cookery school will be a great success, please keep us posted about opening, classes, etc. You never know when your FFWD friends will be in the area.

Merry Christmas & Smashing Success on your new cookery school!

I just love your photos! Your homemade plum jam sounds so wonderful with this. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your job, but it sounds like you have a plan and I wish you all the best with your cooking school! I always believe that things happen for a reason and when things like this happen in our lives it is just the push we need to try something new. I wish you and your family a joyous Christmas!

I loved your photos at the top of the post but was then sorry to hear about your job. You have a wonderful attitude and this is half the battle when these "life events" come up- if you don't see that the window was opened when the door got closed - you'll never make it out :) Your creme brulee looks outstanding and I wish the best of luck for what will be a 2012 of excitement and opportunity ~

Your creme brulee looks lovely. I especially love the last photo of the table setting.
I'm sorry your year is ending with the end of your job, but I'm excited for you that the new year will start with a new venture, your cooking school. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and that 2012 is filled with great things for you.
