FFwD: Nutella tartine

Although, as I blogged before, I'm very busy I couldn't let this one pass by: nutella tartine. A brioche spreader with, in my case plum jam, melted nutella and sprinkled with hazelnuts. Can you think of something better?
Unfortunately I can. It sounds promising.
I began with baking my own brioche as I did in the recipe a few weeks ago and the brioche was very nice. I put it under the grill and it tasted delicious. The prune jam taste great as you can see my last jar is almost empty. Hazelnuts and Nutella a great combination (I even stopped a few hours with my project to make this), but the combination was nice, but not great.
The original recipe is with orange marmalade and my husband and I discussed if that was a better combination. Maybe, but we don't think that would be a winner. We thought the fruit was an addition that wasn't necessary for such a great thing as a brioche with nutella and hazelnuts.
Don't get me wrong after reading this that it tasted awful, everything was gone, but I'm not going to make this very often.

To bad, but I learned that we like plain nutella the most on a brioche.
Last week the recipe was a gorgonzola apple quiche and because I had a lot to do and the combination sounded a bit weird (sorry Dorie), I did not make it. But the reactions from the other Doristas were so great that I am going to make it and probably next week because that recipe contains mussels and I can't find one mussel fan in my household.
So all of you a very good weekend and I'm going further on with my garden plan.

It looks delicious, especially the slice of homemade brioche.

Looks pretty!
If you can't find mussels or clams for next week's recipe, try adding shrimp at the very end of the cooking. The mussels were a pain in the backside, but I thought the dish was worthy of substiution for people who aren't fans of mussels... (a firm white fish would even be nice)

I'm with you. I don't need jam getting in the way of my nutella on toast. The brioche sounds like the perfect vessel for nutella. When I made it, I just used some fresh baked bread, but it wasn't brioche.

As usual, even with your busy schedule, you have put me to shame by making everything from scratch. I just went out and bought brioche and of course I already had everything else in the cupboards.

And if you are not opposed to blue cheese, I think that you might be surprised by the quiche recipe. I too thought that it sounded a bit weird, but it turned out to be delicious. Between lunch and then leftovers for dinner, my husband and I polished it off in one day.

I'm glad you tried this. To be on the safe side, I also had a couple of mini-slices with just the Nutella and hazelnuts. Those were definitely tasty as well.

I loved the orange marmalade but orange/chocolate is one of my favorite combinations. I'm super impressed that you made your own bread!

Yours looks really nice. I have to agree. OK, but not all that great. I think that either would be better by itself. I'm impressed with the brioche! I used my white bread from Tuesdays with Dorie, but did make some grapefruit marmalade. I'm totally in your camp. Great post.

I like getting the creative side of me going with this simple recipe. Now I'm thinking of other toppings and fun things to do with a Nutella sandwich. But...we used raspberry jam...My Honey was helping and I figured she would like it better...and it turned out really good.

I think you really have to like the chocolate/orange combination to really enjoy this. I do, but I've not been surprised by the kind of meh reaction by some of the FFwDers - chocolate and fruit can seem at odds with each other. Your bread slices look so pretty!

I think you will like the quiche - it was great. The sauce that goes with the mussels is good on it's own for a light pasta sauce if you want to leave the mussels out!

That brioche looks fantastic. Did you use Dorie's recipe as a loaf?

Wow- that last shot is particularly awesome ! I have not had much Nutella before but I followed this to a "t". I think what I liked best was the salt- which I would not have tried myself. Guess since I love chocolate covered pretzels I should not have been surprised I enjoyed this combo. And kudos for knocking out the brioche from scratch.

We liked this. I used raspberry wine jelly and it was good. Its not something we'll eat tons of but if we want a quick, sweet snack in the afternoon it will work for us. Your brioche looks great!

I don't understand. Did you use Prune Jam and Nutella? Honestly, anything , with homemade Brioche is fabulous. Don't you just love that bread? And, your bread for the Dorie/Julia lovefest looks pretty darn yummy. I am doing TWJ but, since I am in a Winter rental on the California coast with no heavy-duty mixer, I am not starting until next week's chocolate tarts. Oh, yeah.

Plum jam is very versatile though I think orange+chocolate is classic. Good work on making brioche from scratch. Hard to go wrong with brioche slathered with Nutella. Hope you'll enjoy the quiche next week!

I love how you made your own brioche. And I just love Nutella. I think this makes a great breakfast.

I'll bet the homemade brioche was wonderful! You know, I didn't like it with the marmalade. It was the fruit/chocolate combination. While I didn't love this one, I did prefer it with just nutella and now jam. Well, with the nuts and salt sprinkled on top too.

I used Dories recipe for the brioche, and I did use prune jam. I will try to do shrimps instead of the mussels, that's a great idea and we do love shrimps.

I'm just planning for my grocery list to include the quiche form last week, so I'm doing one extra this week (and I think it's a great combination with the onion soup).
