FFwD: Fresh Orange pork tenderlion

It's Friday again and we're back with French Fridays with Dorie. This week we made Fresh Orange Pork Tenderlion.
Tenderlion is one of our favourite meat dishes, so we've got high expectations about this one. And oranges are in season, so the taste is quite right. Maybe a new recipe for my tenderlion recipe collection?

This was a real quick recipe. It was made in about half an hour. We ate it with hash brown potatoes and green beans.
And the result:
I don't think that the oranges added enough to the tenderlion that it was a great recipe. It was allright but certainly not great. I like my tenderlion better with apple than with orange.

But the good news is: that's something I know from now on. I don't make my tenderlion with oranges again, not with this recipe anyway.

If you like to know if the others liked this recipe look at:

It looks like it came out beautifully. Apples and pork are always a winner - I don't blame you for liking that combination.

This dish did go together quick...had too much orange zest I thought. Good but not a repeat.

Pork and apples are a better match. I cut the orange with white wine... too orange for my taste.

When I have made pork with oranges in the past I have also not cared it preferring apples with my pork as well, but there was something in this dish maybe the scallions and the cardamom mixed with the oranges they we really liked. Your photo is really a good one.

Well, at least you learned what you don't like! Even if you didn't think this was a great one, you certainly made a very pretty dish! Nice work!

I agree with you. This was OK, but not fantastic. It's hard when you already have a stellar recipe of your own to compare something new to.

Kudos for making this dish! I usually skip it altogether.

Your pork looks wonderful. I think apple is certainly more traditional but the orange was very tasty too!

Totally agree with you about this recipe. Ok, but not special. That said, your dish does look delicious!!

I think you were spot on when you said you had better recipes in your pork tenderloin collection than this one. I really didn't mind the oranges/pork combo, I felt we were taking a tenderloin and doing it injustice by slicing and dicing. I like my centers pink and it was not to be. And, I would have enjoyed more of a cardamon flavoring. I don't think the onions did anything for the dish. I also have some delicious pork roast recipes which I will return to using. With pork, I believe it's important to use a trust meat thermometer.

mostly, we all came to the same conclusion. It wasn't a bad recipe but just not flavorful enough!

It still looks wonderful but ditto. I love tenderloin so many other ways better that I doubt I would do it this way again.

Agreed, though my taste testers were happy to know the ingredients this week and like them. It was fairly healthy too and we appreciated that but I don't plan to repeat this one again. Yours still looked great and your son in the dessert post is just adorable !!!

I think I'll stick with apple and pork. If I did make this again, I'd cut way down on the zest and number of orange sections. It was a little overwhelming.
